guys im new to the forum but not new to bmws,in the past i owned a 318ci,a great car with great mpg!..have just purchased a e46 320 ci,2002 with 40k on the clock, great car but the mpg is very poor to say the least, the clocks saying 18.2 all the time, short trips about 13miles each way,the car seems very thirsty any ideas? smiffy73

Wow, that's pretty poor alright - my manual 330i returns more than that & does 6 miles each way currently. If you want your codes read, I work near Gatwick so can read them for you free of charge during working hours if that's of use - there may be something amiss.

Having said that, the cabrio is the heaviest (non-M3) E46, the M54 2.2 engine isn't the most powerful, particularly when coupled to the auto gearbox, so maybe the short runs just highlight these 2 things.

Drop me a PM if you do fancy the codes being read - but I suspect that might just be the way it is

Get your cordes read if your close to Paddy

You'll need to figure out the fuel consumption yourself as I think the OBC sometimes need configuring, but other than that it could be anything from a dodgy lambda sensor, dirty injectors, kanckered maf..
