hi, im thinking of trying something but want some opinions on it first. I work for mercedes and on the 350 sports the air boxs have a cut out on them with a really really fine mesh over it and gives a really nice induction noise.

    air box.jpg

I want to cut a rectangle out of the air box on the side nearest the wing and cover it in a extremly fine mesh, with the hope that it makes a nice induction noise yet keeps the hot air out.

Recon it will work or just be pointless?

Sounds to me like it would just make more noise bud, Probably will have no affect on performance and will probably just suck in hot air... I wouldn't do it personally, I would rather just save & buy a decent induction kit with a proper box & cold air feed... Then you should get a decent induction noise & a little performance boost...

they do this on Audi TT's..to make them sound a bit better.(they call it a "wak box"). makes no diff to the performance - OR + ...but they do suck in hot air

im just after a bit more induction noise without having a pay a few hundred for a decent kit. if i cut the hole right next to the wing hopefully not to much hot air will get to it. I mite try it and see if its any good, if not at least i tried something new

You could try it and if it doesn't work just get a new air box off ebay for a few squids.
