    Hi all,

I bought this exhaust from the ebay retailer. I drive a 320i E46 (2001 model). My local garage say it can't be fitted as my exhaust system is a single piece. Are they right?

I don't really understand why a component like this would be sold which can't be fitted to the standard build of the model it's designed for. Can't afford a full exhaust system so am just going to return it if it can't be fitted. Does anyone have any advice?

    Thanks

    PMcD

this is what I found the E46 320...it is a double pipe system

You'd need to get underneath yours to see......

The 318 has a single pipe exhaust according to realoem...

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

BristolZed: Mine has twin pipes all the way, was looking under it just this morning with the mechanic.

Stk: I *think* it's the 1st of the two links you posted.

I take it both of you guys reckon it should be fit-able?

Both links are for the same car...the first is the front part of the exhaust and 2nd is the back box...if it has twin pipes and the exhaust you have bought has twin pipes then you shouldn't have a problem fitting the exhaust

I know that people are upgrading 320i 2.2 backbox for a 330i one so cant see the problem why yours cant be fitted.

StK: Hahaha, I've really given the game away that I know nothing about the underside there! Embarrassing!

RomanBMW: That's what I thought. Right enough, the garage I went to aren't specialists but they've always seen me right before. Contacting a place in Glasgow to see if they can sort me out with exhaust fitting and remap this weekend!

Keeping my fingers crossed here as posting the part back is a pain in the arse and expensive to get a refund.

My god. It is nearly impossible to find a garage to take this on. Just off the phone to one place who say you need special wielding equipment to do it.

Does anyone know a garage in Glasgow or near Dundee who fit performance exhausts?

go to kwik fit, say to them you think you might need a new exhaust
they will get it on the ramp for you and you can have a look underneath, regardless they will probably make up some rubbish about trying to sell you a new exhaust for 500quid or so just tell them you'll be back. You can just have a good look underneath for free!

just an update for anyone who is interested:

The exhaust has now been fitted by an independent here in Dundee. Seems to be a good job (not fallen off in the 20 miles or so today), and he had "no bother" doing it!

As for the gains.. between the k&n induction and the scorpion backbox the car is now noticeably quicker up the rev counter. It's not like I suddenly have a 330 or anything, it's just a bit quicker when pushed and more responsive. Thumbs up!
