you 'may' release 1 or 2 extra ponies, but the biggest effect will be extra noise and maybe an improved pedal response.
k and n's clog less than paper filters and a s/s back box wont rust and these are the main gains you will get
    what i've felt,what i've known
never shined through in what i've shown.

    Hi,
I've read that the k&n will oil your maf sensor wire up, Some say that th sponge type filters work better on bmw's & make sure you put a cold feed if your using a cone filter.

I've had k&n filters on my last three cars and to be honest, with an induction kit i never felt any performance gains exept for the nice growl when you floored it i had panel filters on my nissan 300zx & couldnt notice any difference with them either to be honest

Have a look at the green cotton panel filters or others that dont use oil, Good luck

What exhaust systems would you recommend? I'd like something a little meatier / "bassier" but I don't want a noisy exhaust!

I've had Scorpion on my 318is and the M-Power conversion. I wouldn't use anything else

I was also looking into a panel filter for my 318, sadly I thought they were a bit overpriced for not seeming to get any extra benefits.

I take it on the motorway they make a bit of noise though? Or does a good sound system drum it out?

What Scorpion tailpipe options are available for the 2001 318ci - I'd like a fairly standard looking twin pipe if poss!

I have just installed a new induction kit so if anyone wants the perfectly still usable old one they can have it,just have to cover postage or can pick it up
