I was wondering could i take the ecu out of the e46 318i for more bhp. It has the same 1.9 engine and the same ecu but is putting out 118bhp rather than 105bhp my car is doing.

i don't think so to be honest. maybe a remap would be a better option.

thanks for your reply. i am getting the car remapped at the end of the month the man doin it guarentees me he will get 120bhp on the dyno or i dont pay for the map. just was thinking if i got the 318 ecu i could remap it to 130bhp. I cant understand why they de-tuned the 1.9 engine in the 316i.

i thought the 316 and the 318i were the same power, but i must be wrong.

its just a spec thing, the 125i is a 3.0 as is the 130i. same with the 3 series.

power is money - money is power haha

i have the 118hp version of this engine in my 318ci and recently had to get a like for like replacement when the original blew. from what i was told by the guy i got the replacement engine from the 118hp had a modified intake manifold compared to the 316 version giving the difference in power so if thats the case an ecu swap alone wont do it. Dont take that as gospel though, just what I was told when trying not to buy the wrong engine.
