    Oil catch tank

    notice this on ebay and wondering if anyone has put one on there e46? if so has it improved anything? or it a waste of money and time getting one?

    oh right! might leave it then. was just trying to find out a few things to make my engine run abit better with it being a old car. make the most of it

    BMW have something similar fitted already as part of the oil seperator / breather system

    All an oil catch tank does is collect the crankcase gases that would other wise be fed back into the inlet of the engine to be burnt away. Once in the tank the gases condense into a crappy oily liquid.

    You take the oily air that normally comes from the crankcase ventilation and send it through the tank so the oil gets trapped in a cleanable canister while the air/pressure/gas re-reouted to the intake. The catch can is not a resevoir or oil supply. The gunk that accumulates in it should be cleaned out and disposed of properly.

    You can leave the cover open to vent to the atmosphere, but it's bad for the EARTH,road and is not legal (or on the track either)
