Got this pic i took of a picture of a column that is the same as mine, i need some advice and identifing of parts,
    1. this part goes through the bulk head! but it does move side to side about 3mm in total! should it? and it moves in and out when the couplin is off!

    2. what is the metal ring for on the plastic ring?, seems to clip on and hold it in place! but mine is a little further down.

    3. and this plastic ring column that buts up to the upper column, whats that for? is it a release to the lower section?

i played around with one of these on a e36, looks basically the same. the spindle (1) im pretty sure shouldnt have any movement in mate. i may be wrong but im sure it shouldnt.
the clip (2) does it fold in to lock it? so basically a circle washer with a part of of it bent in?

There was a little bit of play in mine when i changed the joints.
Noticed you've changed the rubber joint on your other thread. You still got steering hassles?

yes!! mate, it doesn't pull over the white lines that much now, but it does like to wander still, and it still isn't point and go!, go my print off from the aligners, and my mate has said it is set up wrong, although its in the green, its not equal and straight. so once the wishbone and rear camber is sorted, and also the inner bush replaced, then he will do for free.
