Is it true you can put a different ratio in the steering rack to make it turn faster? Just something i remember hearing once.

I know fitting the Z3 rack is a very good mod for the E36, but ive not seen it done on a 46 before..

If the racks are the same fittings I cant see a reason not to, but some resarc would be needed as the racks are nearly £400 IIRC...

    Where are the pictures though...

It will take a while for the springs to settle mate. A few weeks worth of use and they should bed down nicely...

Correct, usually allow between 6-8 weeks and if the drop has not settled then the manufacturers will normally replace them. Not usually a problem though

It may be worth looking at the steering rack from later cars; they were revised in 2001 when the 323 became the 325 etc (not entirely sure were I read it, but it was a pretty reputable source - the BMW garage I bought my car also mentioned something along those lines). If I'm correct, it was to improve handling and has slightly less turns lock to lock. Not sure if it was done again as part of the face lift.

Might not be too expensive if you can get the parts needed from a breakers.

Has lowering the car made much noticeable difference to the handling yet? Its on my to do list after powerflexing it (my bushes are shot) and I've decided that my car looks like its on stilts having seen some lowered cars.

Yeah ok I nicked the thicker rubber mount from you but I did mention a long long long time ago about the drivers side sitting lower and the battery in the back for weight distribution
