Hi, I'm new to this forum and also to BMW ownership. I'm going to have this car a few years, so I would like to (tastefully) mod it a bit. My priorities are:

Handling - I'd like to sharpen it up a bit, what would you recommend on a budget of £600 tops? I was thinking coilovers, but which ones? The car has done 93k so there's probably not much life left in the originals.

Go - I realise I can't expect miracles, but I was thinking about a remap and sports exhaust system, having done this on other cars it makes them feel a lot quicker whatever the dyno says! Also, perhaps an induction system if they're a good idea? For a total budget of £1000, what's best?

Stop - I might want to do the odd trackday, and while I've never had any probs with the brakes on the road I'm led to believe they're not up to track work. Up to £400, what solution is most effective?

Interior - If I can get hold of a set of M-sport seats from an e46, will they bolt straight in? Also, I've got the BMW business stereo and the display's knackered. There are a few for sale on ebay, but apparently they have round or square sockets on the back. Can anyone confirm which mine is? I'd go out and look, but the car is away with the Mrs at the moment.

Lots of questions, sorry! I have searched the forums but these cars are so complex and there are so many variants (compared to my last car anyway, a VX220) that it is difficult to figure out what is available/will fit/is a good idea. Hopefully your collective knowledge can help! Thanks in advance!

Hottuning do a set of coilovers at a great price. Check out their ads on the forum These with Powerflex polyurethane bushes all the way around will sort out your ride.

Braking... Personally I rate EBC grooved discs and EBC greenstuff pads all around

Remap, exhaust and panel air filter upgrade will see you well but don't expect to a massive increase in horse power

Ooooh, someone with the same car as me!

I've been doing the same as yourself, looking around thinking that 323 was the number of the devil, till i clocked the manifold change in one of the bm mags this month. not cheap but it changes the power availability up to that of the 325. think it was about £400 for the lot, adding a remap on to that.

bushes are next on my hit list too, as anything that will get shot of the tramlining has to be an advantage..

you rate greenstuffs ron? havent tried them on the bm but wasnt impressed on my 200sx. Not a lot of bite and went away fairly quickly. The reds were better, but in the end i had DS2500 ferodos on board and they were lovely.

Do braided hoses work well on the 323?
Parked up next to a fellow workers 330ci and the brakes on his make mine look like small washers and very wrong...:(

I really rate the greenstuff but i've only used them with the grooved discs too.

Redstuff pads are much better suited to turbo cars. With the scooby EBC recommend you fit nothing less than a redstuff pad.

I also use Goodridge stainless braided hoses

The ultimate braking upgrade would be bigger discs like that of the 330 as you mentioned

There is many mentions to the manifold replacement on this forum too. The 323 is a de-tuned 325

Remap, manifold replacement and exhaust accompanied with a panel filter or shielded induction kit will add a much noticeable difference
