Hi, I'm a new member of the forum and first time BMW owner.

I have recently purchased a 1998 316 Compact but the mileage is currently stuck, so I am doubting the mileage presented to me is genuine/accurate

Also the speedo does not work, and the fuel guage appears to be faulty.

I've not filled the car up yet so the fuel guage might be a 'red herring'.

Due to all these faults is it likely that the full dashboard is to need replaced, and what cost would this usually carry?

Check all the connector on the back of the dash as they may of come loose. I had a similar ids 2 weeks ago and the clocks needed replacing.
If you have to replace the clock u can get them of eBay for around £30

I've now filled the tank and the fuel guage remains at zero, the speedo does not work and the mileage is still stuck.

Has someone been 'fiddling' with the mileage? The reset counter is also stuck on zero. The mileage counters are digital so can they be tampered with?

If I need to replace clocks as suggested how do you access them? How big of a job is it?

Its dead easy, there are a couple of screws in front of the clocks holding the plastic surround in then the clocks will slide forward and out, unclip the 3 wire connectors and replace with your new clocks. It took me about 10 mins to swap mne. Some people say you have to remove the steering wheel but it just squeezes out.

    Hi all,
My fuel guage always shows empty except every now and then it gets a lease of life and shows normal and then a few seconds later goes back to empty. This only started about a week ago - any suggestions??
I'm new to this whole BMW thing.....
    Pls help if you can
