    Guys,

Whats the best cheap performance mod for the 540? I'm trying to construct a list of priority so I can add a component a month like:

    1. chip (what type?)
    2. cold air intake/larger intake pipes
    3. extractors/exhaust
    4. cyclone (heard of this, what is it)

I'm looking for M5 like power with an auto box!

    Any ideas?

How about this? anyone tried it? for US$70 you cant go wrong .. almost 1US$ per horsepower!

Or is there another chip thats better??!!

I would be very scared of that chip. 'Ebay type' chips are often just a resistor that advances your timing. I doubt very much this will acaheive 50bhp and I doubt its very good for your car.

I could be wrong, but I imagine if that chip added 50bhp, didnt kill the engine and cost $70 everybody would know about it and have one.

Remap is your way I think. The e39 540i can be remapped but as your is 1997 it could be hit or miss if i can connect via the obd. If I can connect to your car then you could be looking at around 14-17bhp and 20Nm torque gains.
Please see my forum section for prices.

    Hi,

i don't even have my 540iT yet, but will have Sunday.

I have been looking at this muffler delete malarky. It appears this results in a loss of low down power but a gain higher up the revs.

The main gain is the impressive sound this generates which sounds awesome.

I am going to carry out a lot of research on this before I go ahead but it seems like a good mod for little money.

The most cost effective way of making the car go quicker........strip it. Or improve the handling. Improve the tyres. Maybe a proper service. All of these things will make a difference.

Can anybody share any information on the muffler delete process? I have searched the forum and can't seem to fing any information in the UK on this subject.

I have seen details on US forums but is this still legal in the UK??
