With your exhaust do anything you like as long as it's the back box, this will see better gains and also the back-box weighs a ton!! Best of luck with it

Looks like I may have a problem...

There's custard on the oil cap, and no water in the header tank. But there's no water in the oil?
Have I got a blown head gasket/cracked head, or just a radiator leak?
It has been stood since January, so I'm not sure if the oil cap custard is down to condensation in the engine, or if it is a problem.

I'm going to test it in the next couple of days.

If it is a head gasket/crack, I'm in need of a new engine quite quickly and fairly cheap.
    If anyone can help?

If it turns out to be new engine time (which hopefully it won't...) I'm just about to pull my 2.8 out (1996 E36 328SE Saloon) today / tomorrow, as it's the Nikasil engine and its using oil. It runs like a dream - smooth & powerful, and the oil consumption hasn't really got any worse in the time I've had it (about a year), but it uses up to 1L of oil every 100 to 200 miles (sometimes 500 miles with no oil used, other times 100 miles uses 1L). As long as I keep the oil level topped up and the plugs clean, it keeps running sweet, but I've finally got to the point where I've decided to change the engine for the later spec version to fix the problem.

I've just bought a replacement engine which will be going in Wednesday / Thursday, and the old one is surplus to requirements. I'm also not that far away from you, which is why I thought I'd offer it.

Hopefully you won't need it, but its there if you do.

I'll find out shortly if it's something to worry about or not.

V8monkeyboy, how much are you looking for, for the engine? I could be interested either way.

    Cheers Frank.

I was going to call them this week, and see how much it is.
The only reasons I was thinking of using emaps was:
    1) they come to you, which is good seeing as I'm not insuring or taxing the 328.
    2) they have a ready done map to upload.
    3) it's a set price.

That will just be condensation as there is no water in the oil. Common problem that gets asked on here nearly every other day, ................

Get a coolant pressure test done to find the water leak.

And anyone interested in buying a engine or offering one should go down the correct lines and follow the rules of the forum. http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/...ement.php?f=71

Not much - only value to me was for a spare head in case I ever needed one (which hopefully I won't...), and to measure up for some brackets that I want to make. If you need it I'll part with it and accept beer money or interesting swapsies...
