After lots of deliberating i think i have decided to give my '97 328 a slightly gruffer sound. Its got a k&n which gives it a good induction roar but would like it to sound a bit deeper. Would a stainless back box do this without going overboard. I dont want it to annoy the neighbours at 4am when i go to work or irritate me on the motorway. P.s, i'm not a chav but love the sound of the straight 6 and want to hear it a bit more.

remus are very nice but extremely costly. £500 for a back box!!!!! Half the value of the car!!!!!

How about Miltek? I do believe they have sample videos on their website showing off their system on an E36 M3.

I am a "Scorpion" man myself

cheap fix and a bit more noise before 3k
if your car has a butterfly valve in the rear excite pipes it should have a valve connected to the rear silencer, remove the plastic pipe and cap off, this will open both pipes up on idle to 3k giving you a full sounding rear box and it does make a difference

+1 for Milltek. Supersprint or Sebring might be worth considering as well.
