My 323 auto coupe has 105k miles on the clock - runs as smooth as anything i've driven and i'm not looking to keep it for very long (a year maybe 2). I've had it for about 3 months now but looking to make it a little more responsive/quicker. Since iv'e had the BM most of my friends up'd their game and got faster cars (as you do right? ;p) and on long cruises or general thrashes i'm going to be slightly out-matched
Seat Leon Cupra R
Honda Civic Type R
I know 'buy a new car' may be the response of some but i love this car and would rather use my time getting to grips with increasing power gains and treat it as a project.
So from what i already know the 323 is pretty much an air-starved 325 so inlet manifolds (off a 325) and a bigger bore throttle body should provide an extra 20bhp now an induction kit is apparently recommended and can yield upto 10bhp (seems high!! would like clarification) i have a PiperCross filter fitted at the moment but may replace that should an optimal recommended one be mentioned.
For the exhaust i was thinking about fitting a 328 system, although with the vacuum actuator is that going to be counter-productive or after 3k revs will it not matter? does the 325 have the actuator installed or pay a more sizeable price for an M3 system? (is after-market worth buying as opposed to installing other BMW parts?)
Also on the subject of after market kit, the M3 cams provide an additional 10/12bhp was wondering if anyone had changed these on a 323?
So with these *minor* changes
Inlet + exhaust restrictions: 170bhp -> 197bhp
Induction kit: 197 -> 207bhp
M3 Cams: 207 -> 219bhp (not minor change lmao)
None power related
Front strut brace for stability
330 brake discs/calipers - have 18" rims
after market dampers/coil springs
Was also on the great Turbo OR Supercharger pondering, has any of you (or do you know anyone who has) done this for a 323? im very very tempted i love the whole underdog feeling, if i had a turbo i would but 316 badges on for a piss-take was wondering what sort of power-gains both provided and possible cost incursions of each option - also how well this particular engine responds to both.
Also the most crucial thing is... is any of this worth it for an Automatic with no TC or am i better off spending 5k on an M3? although i wouldn't be interested in buying one for some years yet and i'm thinking more project and fun as opposed to anything else.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and any feedback will be gratefully received
