Which is the right kit for a P reg E36 1996 face lift 320i SE? The reason I ask is because there are 2 1996 models, N and P reg.

I think this is the right one:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K-N-INDUCTION-...item2a02c6eb22

    or K+N 57i

    thanks!

The second one is for your car.

I just put your car details into KNFilters

The two Induction Kits which come up for your car - you can use either - have part numbers '57-0136' and '57-0164'

The first one you posted is part number: 57-0334
The second one you posted is number: 57-0164

Ah, just done another wee check. The 0136 kit's are for '92 to '96, and the 0164 is for '95 to '99!

    So definitely the second one!

    Excellent thanks!
Is this something I could fit fairly easily at home? My Honda years ago had a piper cross filter and it was a snap to fit. I havent really had a good look, just thought of it tonight

As long as you follow the instructions, it'll be a doddle! It's just a simple case of taking out the airbox and putting the induction on in it's place.

Be sure to get a heatshield for it, as without one performance is affected badly - gunner1 is making them, add your name to his list: here

Thanks, added my request there. Does it really make that much of a difference having a heat sheild?

It really does, as it stops the hot air from the engine getting to the filter; which is bad for the combustion chamber. It also means more cold air instead, which is good for performance!

It also protects the filter from the heat.
