There is a £30 (eprom) I think chip on ebay from the states which is meant to make a difference to the performance (bit better low down response etc) and at that price I am going to take a punt. Someone has recommended it on e36coupe.com saying he noticed an improvement on track and street.

318is is never going to be a power house though.

Chips are very easy to mass copy. If it is a straight copy of a chip that people pay £150 for then there will be no difference.

Lets put it this way - the guy running it has had it on for 5 months now without a single problem.

Our 318is' are worth nothing. At worst you may need a second hand ECU should something go wrong.

I wouldn't put one in my letterbox let alone YOUR xbox

When it comes to tuning and the running of the engine I believe it's worth using a reputable mapper or JUST DON'T BOTHER!

If it were a 328 or M3 then I would agree but a slow old 318is is not something I am going to cry over if it goes bad. i will let you know how I get on with it with a balanced perspective. If I find it useless I will say so

I see where you are coming from, depending on the car I'd be tempted to take the calculated risk. However, it is more than just the ecu you are risking.

Can you not find one in the UK?

I suppose it might alter the injector duty and leave you with too lean a mixture of fuel to air and cause excessive heat.
