Hi all, a quick question. If you get a remap / chip done for more power is this considered a modificatio and should it be disclosed to your insurance company. Thanks

Definately is a mod but its up to you if you want to disclose it.Its not obvious like an intake manifold but it does increase the power and if you have an accident and the scan it they could find the new map or if its chipped then they can find the new chip-Probably in your best interest to disclose it but up to you

Another thing is been a 95 E36 you would have to have it chipped as the chips can't be remapped

I looked into this, and BW chiptune do the chips. IIRC it was around £300. I personally didnt do it as it was around 10bhp and 20nm of torque extra. I didnt think it would be worth the £300 for such little gains. Was gonna get my injectors cleaned and new cam and crank sensors instead....

Obviously its up to you Nick mate. I just thought it was a lot of money...

you can get an extra 15bhp from chipping that car. obviously it's an older E36, and would have to be chipped for a gain. it is also possible to use a later MS41/flash ecu, as BMW themselves install them in the earlier cars, should the ECU develop a fault.

double check that with Jason @ BW Chiptune, London - but i'm certain my parts guy at BMW said he only sells the Siemens MS41/FLASH ecu, for all 6-cylinder engines! 20nm torque is a nice, healthy gain. You might see more from the tuning. Give him a ring anyway; i'm sure he'll see you right.
