Hey everyone, I am a new member here in Australia and I just wanted to creates quick thread in search of some information regarding my new e36 328i. It is a 2 door manual coupe which is in quite good condition. At the moment the car is at the mechanic getting a new right rear suspension arm. There is some rust, however to my knowledge not too much considering the car and its age. I am by no means experienced, this is my first car and I am quite useless when it comes to car knowledge.

I understand there are probably hundreds of threads on this website regarding e36 328i, but I am not very experienced with the website, and I though a quick new threat would be ok, correct me if I'm wrong.

I was just hoping to get some information on some good first modifications and restorations in order to enhance the performance of this fine car, and possible have it running smoother or better if possible. I have read a lot of information on possible modification however I was just unsure of what would be a good starting point, and where I should go from there.

    All help is greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!!

    Henry.

Hi and welcome to the forum

I would start with a good service and fix any minor issues before tuning.

The first and best modification I recommend is fitting a M50 intake manifold from the 325i, this has bigger intake throats than the 328i and can give an extra 10-20bhp above 3000rpm. It's not a straight forward fit as the plumbing for the CCV and ICV is different but there are plenty of diy's on here and google to help you.

A simple and free modification is to remove the baffle inside the intake air filter housing, ther are also diy's and pictures on here as well as google. It's very simple though, you just have to remove the air filter and when you look inside you will see a plastic type tube on the far left side of the intake box where the snorkel feed attaches. Pull this out and refit your air filter as normal or you could replace the stock air filter with a good after market panel filter.

Another free modification is the golf tee trick which holds open the butterfly in one of the exhaust back box pipes, you remove the hose that fits into the pipe and place a golf tee or similiar object in the hose then tuck the hose out of the way safely. This keeps the butterfly open at all times giving the exhaust better flow and sound. There are pictures & diy's on here and google too.

There are lots more as you probably know but I hope this helps for now
