Having put the second hand Remus backbox on in place of my stock exhaust the car seems to be a lot more lively at low revs. Most definitely picks up a fair bit quicker and seems more free revving. The butt dyno says it could have taken a second off the 60 time which was poor at 10 seconds.

Great mod in my opinion....I wasn't expecting anything from it at all.

^ I was saying that my butt says to me that it has taken a second of the 10 second 0-60 time.

A back box alone cant realease any more than a couple of horses max. Even with a full catback system and a re-map you might only squeeze another 10 out of her...

My mate had a little VW Polo once and he put a twin dtm uplift back box on it and we both thought it seemed quicker, but in reality it was just a bit more noise fooling us!

its true that most exhausts don't make much of a difference, especially on a bmw which have extremely well developed systems as standard! and remus although look and sound good to some people arn't that high up in the performance league!
I did however get a stainless steel magnex(very very good exhausts) for a cavalier gsi once, and that really was a massive plus! the old vauxhall red top was a storming engine with 150bhp for a 2l and 144lb torque back in 1989! and it just loved to rev and pull!
the car was quite quick as it was, but after putting the mid and rear section on the torque could be felt mid to top end pull! the improvement was imediate, the car just seemed to pull though the gears effortlessly!but vauxhall standard exhaust back systems were garbage, which is odd because they had a 4 branch manifold from the factory!maybe thats why the back system worked so well! and the engine in the astra gte 16v was restricted by the back box, 7bhp could be gained from the magnex back box alone! the early gtes had 156bhp, and many were documented at 165bhp with back box alone!

I agree that usually back boxes make little difference but lets put it this way - Im not expecting miracles from this car as I am only playing around with it out of boredom but this really has made a noticeable difference in its low end range.

Its not the noise fooling me because it sounds exactly the same as the stock one that was on before.

Perhaps no bhp increase at all but I think it has improved response to the point that the engine picks up cleaner and quicker. Im not going to bother dynoing the car because it is too slow to waste tuning money on (I got the box because it was used, cheap and I wanted a twin exit for looks).

maybe there was an underlining problem with the old one that somehow restricted the flow, or even it could have been an after market crap 1! and putting this box on helped it breath again, eiither way its your car and you know how it feels! so if you think its quicker then good on you, as long as your happy with it.
