    In the near future i was intending to upgrade my engine to either an M3 lump or something with a turbo,can anyone shed some advice on my situation on what would be better please? also is it 1. possible and 2. worth putting a turbo on my current 318is e36? oh and yes you are right i know bugger all about turbo's

    back to your stuff.. turbo the iS? you could do, but you'd be better of starting with a bigger capacity engine then you can always turbo that later if needed.

    An M3 conversion would cost something like 2k once you get an good engine, and all the associated bits, brakes and driveline for example, and that's doing the spanner work yourself.

    There is a rare iS supercharger kit from Downing Atlanta, but they are out of production, and have plenty of people keeping an eye out for them.
    If you were listing one for sale, you could expect messages from all over the globe.

    For a cheap/middling power increase, finding a scrapped 325 or 328 and swapping the good bits over would be pretty cost effective, a nicely tuned up 328 with the M50 manifold swap would give 240-ish bhp , so that would be an extra 100bhp for about 1k.
