Hi guys, I'm thinking of improving my car's performance and was thinking of several things. Top of the list would be some hairy cams, but don't come cheap, do they?

To get to the point, does anyone know where to get cheaper cams from? Cheapest I found were CatCams, and they go for roughly £800 a pair. If you have any other ideas, please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Gabriel
There are only two products required to make the universe work properly: Duct tape and WD40.

If it moves (and it shouldn't): duct tape.
If it doesn’t move (and it should): WD40.

    Everything else is just stuff.

Afraid you are right-they're not cheap.I usually keep a look out on US ebay as they sometimes have a 2nd hand pair of M3 cams or Shrich cams too.....Problem is shipping from there often costs as much as the cams do Still it'll be good to see if you come across any here

    Hi Gabriel,
Keep an eye on the US Bimmerforums also as they come up for sale almost every week but you have to be super quick as they do sell like hotcakes.

I got a pair of S50 cams from the US last year and If I remember right shipping was around $70 USPS signed for.Did take around a week to get here but that was fine.Customs is the other issue!! £40 I paid to HMRC for duty with an Invoice value of $100.

    Happy hunting

Yep, I reckon so.. Quite expensive, but I a pretty good gain in power.

Thanks mate, but I doubt the S54 cams would fit the M50 engine.

Thanks mate, indeed, customs are a PITA but I reckon a pair off US ebay would still be cheaper than a brand new pair bought from UK. Although, I am a bit worris about being scammed, as I can't check the cams until they arrive in UK. Did you fit them yet, and if so, did you get the chance to do a before/after dyno?

    Hi Gabriel

Yep all done and goes/sounds great above 4k rpm!! Sings louder & louder the harder you push all the way to the redline set at 7k.

Not had a chance to dyno just been far to busy but will get round to it one of these days.

I'm very happy with the results.
A bit of trust involved from the seller but you'll find someone breaking (part out US term) one so should be the real deal.
Most people on the forum selling them are good regular posters and it should be money well spent.

    Best of luck.
