Try getting a pre EWS engine for your car as you car doesn't have EWS.You could fit in a 2.5 or even the M3 3lt engine..choice is yours

EWS was introduced around 1995. What is your budget and what are you hoping to achieve?

There are things that can be done to your 318is. A chip and cams would be a good place to start.

iv got about 1000 maybe more .the only problem with the engine swop is i dont realy have the time anymore to do it myself :frow i was going to tune the 1.8 up but there seems to be alot of threads saying its not a engine that response well.how much roughly can be actived with :-
    cams
    chip
    decat
    full exhaust
also do they respond to head work???

Headwork will help but there are no major gains there.

I'd be tempted to mate the M44 1.9 bottom end up to the M42 head, go for a set of cams (kent or piper are about £200) and a chip. Should be cheap enough and that's the biggest bhp increases per £.

I have done engine conversions in the past but unless your car has a lot of mods I always say why build what you can buy.
