On a 1992, you'd want a chip swap, priced at £60, rather than a remap, which would only be needed for post 1996 M44 engined 318iSs, you'll have the M42 engine.

As for the de-restricted airbox, lift out the air filter, and see if there is a removable plastic baffle inside, which was designed to quieten the induction noise a bit.
If there, is, you can just pull this be out.

You'd be looking at about 11-ish BHP, and 25Nm of extra torque.

    BMW Chips

There's details on what I would need to find the correct chip for your car, and also a link to a chip fitting guide, so you can see what you need to do.

Sorry to bump an old thread.

Just read your post about Vortex systems. My friend has an identical system from Tornado Motor Components fitted to his 1.2l Corsa, he has a dyno of before and after and found 7% BHP and 12% Torque increase.

Im considering buying one for my 325 but have just asked the guys if they think it'll deliver enough air considering my engine is 2x larger than my friends.

The tornado one is cheaper than the vortex and would appear to be the original unit judging by the listing. Also it has Tornado Motor Components on the side of the casing in plastic so I imagine "Vortex" is just a rebadged name someone has given them to make a few quid.
