1994 E34 525i - central locking problem

i parked my car up sunday evening and all was fine, pressed the remote button to unlock the car on monday morning and it wouldnt unlock, tried the key in the drivers door and still wouldnt unlock so i went round and tried the passengers door with the key and the car unlocked, now it locks up on the drivers door with the key but wont unlock, you have to unlock it by the passengers door, also i lock the car at night and in the morning it has unlocked its self, i thought i had forgotten to lock it so i locked it the next night and sure enough the next morning it was unlocked again, can anyone throw any light on it please.

1.When you are locking the car is it on the key or with the fob?

2.and does the drivers door pin switch go down when locked?

hi ronnie, yes you can either lock it with the fob or the key but then it wont unlock with either, the only way to unlock the car is with the passengers door, but sometimes it unlocks its self during the time after you have locked it, not sure how long after.

yes the drivers door button goes down as do the other three.

Try this, After manually locking or unlocking the system, the door locks may become unsynchronized. To synchronize the locks, close all doors, bonnet and boot lid. Lock the passenger door by turning the key clockwise into the emergency locking position (approximately 110 degrees from position O). Unlock the driver's door. If any of the locks do not operate, repeat the locking procedure until the locking system is synchronized. This might happen if a door which is not completely closed is locked, or a door handle is lifted before the interior lock button is raised.

just been out in it now and came back, parked it on the drive, locked it up and just walking away and it unlocked its self, went to lock it up on the drivers door and it locked, so i tried to unlock it and nothing, tried the sync thing again on the passengers door, still the same

My thoughts are it's a fault with the small module that sits on top of the door latching mechanism

or a door ajar switch intermittantly reporting open
