E46 locking wheel nuts all the same?

I have lost my wheel lock nut (I think I know where it is - 35 miles away!)

I searched ebay (first port of call) and the locking wheel nuts for bmw seem to look EXACTLY like mine?? They are LOCKS at the end of the day so surely they are individual?

My question is, can I use someone else's lock nut to free my wheels (BMW for BMW) as my bro's mate has an E46 too.

I read in another thread I can get a replacement from BMW for about £5, Is that true??

Please help! Im so frustrated right now!

When I purchased my car it didnt come with the locking wheel nut key. I went to my BMW dealers and they have a box set of master keys. Think there was about 20 to 30 different types of locking wheel nut keys. They find the correct one by trying them all one at a time, the one that fits and order you a new one. Thats it. Nothing to worry about.

It was less than a tenner (cant remember exactly how much). If you borrow someone else's and it fits then thats fine, but the keys do vary and not all are the same.

Thanks for the info mate, cant imagine ANYTHING being cheap from a dealers, but sounds like they are my best bet. I feel abit better about it now, cheers
