MAF front left in front of the air filter, MAP back right on the back of the inlet manifold, both cleaned with electrical contact cleaner (don't poke anything in the MAP hole)
Swirl flaps need blanking ASAP and the engine breather (middle left next to the injectors) needs replacing for a vortex type, also would put money of the EGR thernonstat having gone
Black thing on the square tube at the front of the engine, it is held on with 2 10mm bolts and needs to be taken off when the engine is cold (take the radiator cap off first to release pressure) then see if you can blow through it, if you can, it is dead, £32 for a new one
Almost certainly, does the needle get to 12 o'clock? if it does but it takes ages it will be the EGR stat, if it never gets to 12 o'clock the main stat is the most likley cause
exactly that takes ages to get to 12 o.clock just out of interest where is the main stat might be worth replacing aswell where could i find part numbers for both
I would leave the main stat unless it is gone, the EGR stat is such as easy job to do, phone Hereford BMW parts for a 10% discount and free P&P
