When you say broke down, do you mean the engine cut out?

Does the car ever struggle to start? or does it just fire straight away with the miss?

Have you checked your plugs to see how your mixture is (fuel / air)?

Don't just keep listening to the garage. They are guessing, and i'm guessing that is costing you a small fortune!
If it aint broke, don't fix it!!!

There is a chance it could be the valvetronic motor. (Do you know which codes have been thrown)?

It broke randomly and didn't start until I left it for 5/10 mins. This was happening intermittently.

The codes were initially misfire found in various cylinders, c1, c2, c3, c4. Last time when they returned me by saying it has occasional misfire in c4. I didn't check codes after putting camshaft, timing chain, variable valve motors etc.

Car is still in garage. I spoke to them yesterday and they said, misfire has been fixed(I don't believe though, I'll check tomorrow).

There is one more problem just cropping up and that is to deal with radiator. I had new radiator gone in. First it had loos connection which snapped after couple of days and caused radiator to empty. Garage fixed it later and said the pipe came off because it was loosely connected.

They mentioned another leak in plastic resorvior which they were asking BM to quote on. I'm now beginning to think, is this whole thing liked to radiator or some kind of leakage in water.

Did they say how they fixed the misfire? Could be a crank sensor issue, misfire, cutting out then starting a while later.

Cleaning agent they put earlier in engine oil and fuel tank, they said. They flushed it now completely and put in new oil and filter. The garage says the whole misfire was caused by wrong engine oil used in engine before. They don't know whether it was last service or one before. I know last time other garage(BMW authorized) they put in shell brand.

cutting out is still happening and it happened last night but only once. I mentioned it to garage last time but on 40 mins of driving they couldn't experience it, they said.

I'm guessing it's crank sensor. Cam is already replaced.

Any idea on pricing 2002, 318i e46 engine? ebay range 40-70

I paid around 90 for mine from BMW I could of got it cheaper elsewhere but heard of nightmare stories about non genuine sensors causing incorrect readings and giving more problems.up to you but I'd stick with genuine sensor
