    Hi Folks,

I've 318i for over 2 years now. 2002 model and about 85k mileage. Just recently it started misfiring.

    Diagnostics:
I took it to local bmw service centre and on diagnostics it was "Misfiring found in all cylinders summation error" along with "misfiring found in cylinder 1,2,3,4" randomly.

Detail Diagnostics As Suggested by BMW Service:
Costed me 80, coils, plugs were fine. They said its breather valve which needs changing after 60k anyway.

    Breather Valve Changed:
Costed about 340 and after a day of run I noticed problem was still there. Took it back to bmw service and this time they said its faulty Air Mass Meter which had a knock on effect.

    Air Mass Meter Changed:
Costed about 200. Bosche like for like replacement and you know what, It still misfires :(.

    Help pleaseeeeeeee !

    @dazza316i
about a year ago when engine check light came on, it reported camshaft sensor. But it went off automatically after 2 days and never reported again.
BM Servicing has given up on this and suggested to take it to actual BM dealers.

    Here's where I'm standing:

    New Plugs, Ignition coils tried
    Breather valve changed
New Air Flow Meter gone in

timing chain that is. the old tensioners dont put enough tension on the chain so it jumps a tooth, e.g. making it run like crap if at all. but it also could the crankshaft sensor or camshaft sensors or valvetronic motor.

What quality coils have been fitted we only fit bosch dont seem to have any come back with those, same again with plugs. if its still coming up with all cylinder mis fire, mmmmmmmm hows the oil level ie lost pressure to timing chain tensioner and slipped, if it was the breather issue it usually comes up with heated oxygen sensor issue in the trouble code listing heres the part no just incase 111.575.200.35. there was a reflash of the ecu only done by the main stealers but i think that was only done on the M54 and S62/54 engine........good luck

All 4 coils are changed with Bosche - brand new. I took it to some old garage and this guy tested and checked almost everything and suggesting it may be ECU(one of the known issues, misfire in various cylinders). Spoken to ECU testing companies and one of them agreed to carry out a test and not going to charge me for that. since its visual check. Repair costing me 250. Don't know if they carry repair that still fixes the problem. Also, is there a worth repairing ECU? or is there a misfiring problem with 318i ecus?
