hi i have small weep from the oil cap on my 318ci is it just a worn out seal or could this be the start of a crank case vent valve problem? i only use the car to go to work and back and it just gets time to warm up... there for it has all the normal n42 features of a gunky oil cap and rust dip stick etc etc (only condensation as the oil does not get time nor hot enough to burn off the condensation. this only appears in the cold weather) could the "gunk" have got into or blocking the cvv valve/pipes and as a result back pressuring the oil fill cap and causing the oil to be pushed out? it started as a leak from a service i had done a while back. they kinked the seal on the oil filter and it was leaking from there i ignored it and left it for 2/3 months then yesterday i took it apart re fitted the seal and it has stopped leaking.. but since i have done that the oil cap has started weeping making me think a back pressure problem. has this car got a cvv and where is it or is it just a poor oil cap seal?

why not try doing a oil change?

change the oil and filter (with new seals) and clean the cap off, see if it comes back...

i have the same issue, replaced oil cap with new one, and still leaking, also got a leak from the back left hand corner of the rocker cover by the looks of the oil residue on the exhaust heatshield, got new gasket on rocker cover, also had cover off a few times trying different sealers to try and stop the rear leak, still no joy, any further suggestions on what to try next would be much appreciated.

They do have a ccv system: http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E4...oil_separator/

They do get blocked over time and will cause pressure, the valve/oil separator is located under the manifold (see pic)

Could it be the vacuum pump leaking?

JenJason I got exactly the sane issue to a T.
I already replaced CCV and hoses but cannot remember if it was like that before.
I'm replacing vac pump off one from an e90 fab direct, quarry motors was out of stock paid 65 all in.
I was thinking of replacing rocker cover gasket, but now not so sure ? Could it be warped rocker cover ? Might try one from a low mileage breakers ?
