You won't get any diagrams of it because they're inside the intake manifold.

Right, can they be changed on the N42 engine and is there a part number? Or do you need to replace the whole manifold?

Whole new manifold because it's a sealed unit.

it rattles as hell. Specially on cold start. When it rattles I have no power till 3000 rpm. If I start again and it doesn't rattle the will drive fine.

Now I have been told that it could be the crank sensor as well. I have bought that at my local stealer but since the manfold has to come off any way to swap that , I thought I would do it all in one go.

Is there anyway to test them?

Cold start rattle is normally a slack chain issue, are you sure the noise is coming from the disa valves and do you have the modified chain tensioner?
I mentioned in the link I posted how to manually test if the valves are working ok. DIS has a test for the valves but all it does is operate the actuator motor to open and close them, you're instructed to listen for the sound of it operating and if you hear it, then it states disa operation is ok.
When you change your crank sensor, replace the intake manifold gaskets and thoroughly inspect the ccv system (hoses and oil separator) while everything is off.

Thanks for that, have a new ccv valve put in half a year ago and a year ago my whole chain and tensioners were replaced. It was knocked out of time. Had my cam shaft sensors replaced as well.

But good tip I will inspect them again while every thing is off and will order a new inlet gasket in the morning.

It really sounds like the rattle is coming from the inlet. From the inside it sounds like it is comming from the mid of the dashboard. It only happens once in the morning and it will be fine after that, I do suspect it will be getting worse in the cold weather.
