    Hi,

I am new to the site, and thought I would give it a go as i have today had bad news!
the coolant light came up on the dash board, so i promptly filled it up with coolant. when i turned the car on, the coolant then proceeded to drip out the bottom of the car. thinking it was probably a split pipe, new radiator etc, an engineer who looked at the car has come back to me saying the head gasket needs replacing, will take about 4 days to fix and will cost about 950.
does anyone have any experience of this? and can anyone advise if this price is in the right ball figure for a head gasket replacement if this is the problem.
unfortunatley i'm not a mechanic, and have no idea about mechanics of the car apart from the basics, so any advice help would be extremely helpful.
    thanx all.

    Ouch 950

Gasket kits, inc stretch bolts, are circa 200 via autoshops on ebay and I would assume that its the best part of a days labour to fit.

You could shop around for 2nd opinion & other estimates?

If the price includes all parts then 950 doesn't sound too bad. However, be sure to insist on premium parts as cheaper parts are not that much cheaper and the quality of the cheaper gaskets may not be a good investment.
