    hi guys,

I am having a complete nightmare with my bmw. the problem is that the emissions light is on and has been on for a year an a half now and the previous owner sold me the car with the light on so god knows how long its been on there!

The previous owner and my self have had the car code rear on numerous occasions (total of about 4 times) all from different garages inc. bmw. however all they keep telling me is that the code read is not telling them what the fault is related to and that they would have to chuck good money after bad changing parts, which i cant afford.

i have changed the crank shaft sensor and the crankcase breather valve all on recommendation by garages!!!!! Im at the end of my tether and frustrated that know one knows how to solve the problem!

they just tell me they have reset the code and it will be fine........... of course it comes back every time and iv wasted another 50.

it doesn't seem to affect the running of the car, and it passes on the emissions every year. although it is sluggish, but thats prob because its a 316i.

any help would be greatly appreciated and i would be forever in your debt if you could fix it.

p.s. codes brought up are as follows:

    dtc status

    135 - signal, camshaft sensor

171 - check fuel supply system short circuit to b+

    94 - CAN data fault from DME/DDE

    26 - seat occupancy recognition 1 (SEB1)

my car which is a e46 318i used to do the same.

i recently changed the car battery as the old one died one cold january night and the emssions light was reset-touchwood it has not come on again.

do not know for sure whether it will solve your problem-but it did sort mine out as my fault code code was p0420-catalyst sytem below efficiency bank 1.

could it be your camshaft sensors?.

Hi. Check all your breather/vacuum hoses for splits, you can spray something like brake cleaner around the hoses and if the engine note changes that is where the split is.
If your airbag light is on try one of these- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-E46-E39-E3...item20b715fe96 stops the light from coming on. (might need resetting) 30min fix. Jim
The older I get the wrong bit gets stiff !!

they should have cleared the fault codes and reset the adaptions after changing the crank case breather, if they didnt it might be keeping the light on.

I had this error coming up for the last two weeks and the car lost power maximum speed was able to gain was 80km/h and also hard a warning light saying emission values have deteriorated,
so i took the car to my mechanic whereby he checked the fault codes on Bosch diagnostics machine and came up with a faulty valve control actuactor, this was changed and basic settings applied then all fault codes
were cleared and now the vehicle drives ok. maybe something to check but you need codes first, am not sure which error code he found.
