1999 E46 323i se, Engine Management Light....

I have a 1999 323i se.

When turning on the igition all the systems do their initial checks and the lamps on the dash come on for the set time....all except the Engine management light.

Does anyone else have this? is there likely to be a fault somewhere?

someone has possibly taken bulb out to hide it get ya codes read to see if you have a fault

Yea, the screws have been removed on the front of the instrument panel previously.....so not sure if it could be for that.

Dont want to be negative but cant ignore it either.

might only be simple fault to be fixed hopefully

Found this on removing the instrument cluster on a E46....Getting it out is easy but its not as simple as undoing a bulb holder on these cars anymore...

It could even be soldered in the board on the front side under the pvc, in which case its certainly not straight forward to remove.

So my question is, would you go to all that hassle to remove a bulb?

The engine light is a LED, so someone may have stuck tape/cardboard/dining room table over it to hide it, seen it done before,

Try a binnacle test, keep holding your finger on the odo reset button and then turn the ignition on to Aux 1, keep hold of it till TEST comes up, then release the button, the cluster should now do a self test where all the lights come on and the dials move, if it doesn't then you may need to press the odo button again to get it to cycle through.

Excellent information mate, a bit of playing around and i managed to get into the test options and test 2.1 showed up all lights including the "Engine Management light" in question :-).

So now i know the led is still there and it lights up ok i just need to figure out why it doesnt show up when turning on the ignition.

Strange one for sure. at least i now know some idiot hasnt removed it, big piece of mind i can tell you.
