iv hit a curb quite hard, nothing looks bent but the wheels face out wood slightly, when the engine is running the pump makes a straining noise and gets very hot quickly. the steering is very stiff as if theirs no assistants. would this be the rack has gone due to the impackt or is their something ells could be the problem?
It sounds as though you have damaged the steering rack, i would assume this would put an extra strain on the pump causing the excessive heat and whine you are talking about, i have my 2003 e46 with me today, just had a look at it and it seems my wheels are slightly toe-in, not sure what the correct set-up is though, i would get the car in asap as not to cause any more damage i.e pump failure
im going to change the rack tomorrow and hopefully it will solve the probelm as i cant see the lower arms are bent at all
