hi peeps...bought a e36 320i (1994) convertible yesterday.its a great example.im very happy with it...i do have one issue which i was told about before buying....the electric roof does not work.i can put it down manually but the rear cover will not close.

i have been told that this is a common problem with the soft tops on the e36 models.

has anyone had this issue and could possibly give me some advise on possible solutions.i dont really want to take it to a garage as buying the car has left me a bit skint !!!!!

    many thanks...Deano

Yep, join the club, got same prob with my m3- no power what so ever.

apparently the control module for the hood on these is diagnosable through a bmw sysytem.

Got mine booked in for diagnostic at a good independant specialists- easy way to go.

Check the wiring at the boot hinge, It's common for breaking and shorting out, would be a good place to start as you had a blown fuse and the lights came on at the dash with Ignition off.

You will need to peel back the covering as far as is visible when boot is open to check the wires out

    Hi,

Independant specialist had run a diagnostic on my hood, and found the following:

    Motor- short to ground.

I had to rush so he could;nt look real into it for me but said that the motor could be shot or could be shut down due to a dodgy switch.

Is what he saying make sense??

    thanks guys.
