I have a problem! My coolant level is going down some how some where. The car is not over heating. The oil does not smell or look like it has antifreeze in it. This is scaring me the oil does not look like cholclite milk eather. I have been told that they look like that. SO i hope it is not a blown head gasket. I dont know what else it could be. I dont see anything around radatior or anything. PLZ HELP!
I've had exactly the same problem recently on my 328i convertible and to begin with I was worried about headgasket etc. No overheating and no oil in the water or vice versa.
I would check the expansion tank and then get a check fault every few days and top up the tank. Eventually, with the car to temperature and running I put my head under the front bumper and there was water weeping from the expansion tank side right at the bottom corner.
These cars are prone to leaks etc, so my advice would be run the car to temperature and get underneath to find if you have a weep/leak. If you cannot see anything apparent then take it to a garage for a pressure test.
with the engine warm, and the radiator cap on, squeeze the bottom rad pipe and listen for bubbling noises around all the pipes, theres one under the inlet manifold going the head that perished badly on mine and wept a little, hth:thumbsup
if your hearing bubbling then u have a leak and i would guess that cuz u cant see it it would be under the manifold.
best thin to do it get some one to squeez the pipe and try look under the manifold for the bubbles
My wife 97 328i coolant level is low and I can't see where the coolant is going. The oil is clean, no drops on the garage floor, the spark plugs are good. If she drives the car I runs hot because the coolant runs low, but it will idle without running hot. I have changed the radiator and cap, theromstat, the water pump was replaced but with a plastic not metal peller. What the wrong? The car ran execellent before. Thanks.
RadWeld. Had a small leak in my rad recently which i admit i only noticed when Klaus started to overheat as i stopped waiting to go over a motorway roundabout.
Refilled with water a couple of times while i tried to find the leak. Somewhat optimistically decided that at a fiver a bottle, radweld was worth a try and it worked perfectly.
