hello all, ive got a 316 compact and have only had it a couple of months. this is the only car ive driven (usually drive my berlingo works van) so dont know if my problem is just standard road noise but whilst driving on bumpy roads there seems to be a rumbling noise coming from my front wheels, it doesnt do it on normal roads or speed bumps. everything is standard on the car (not lowered or anything) also, the power steering isnt as light as on the berlingo van but i havent driven any other cars to compare it to so it could be normal. any ideas on what my problems could be would be appreciated. thanks moefoemil.

thanks 318i88, just checked them and they are at the right pressure, the noise seems to be getting worse, i was wondering if it could be the wheel bearings but when jacked up theres no play in the wheels

The power steering on bimmers are heavier, dose the noise get louder when turning a corner? if so it could be a hub bearing but you would get some play in the wheel better getting it checked buy a garage mate for peace of mind

Just a quick update to this old thread, I took the car to 3 different garages and none could detect what the matter was, I kept driving the car even though the rumbling got worse to the point where the car was uncontrollable, the car never used to do it all the time but on an hours journey it would probably do it 2 times, you would have to pull over, come to a stop, wait a minute and set off again and it would be ok (until the next time). I decided to sell the car on as it was becoming dangerous, I told the new owner all about what had happened and if he solved the problem to let me know what it was (he was a mechanic). He had it for approx a month without it doing it then it started doing it on him. He couldn't work out what it was, took it to 2 BMW garages and they couldn't figure it out as everything they checked on the car was fine.
    The mystery continues.....
