hi folks.
I am new to BMWs and have a really nice 1.6 1998 saloon.
Everything works fine, but it seems to be holding back when i put my foot down to pick up speed. I know the 1.6 isn't the fastest BMW but it drives really nice.
I can only describe it as an intermittent thing, as it will feel as though it's holding back then instantly release and pick up speed.
Do you mean like a delay when you press the gas? When was it last serviced? Does it happen when the engine is cold or warm or all the time? Any other information about the car?
I don't know about fitting slightly larger wheels. Loads of people have fitted 17 - 19 inch wheels on their cars with no problems. Maybe this is because they are fitted with low profile tyres so the combination of low profile tyre and larger diameter wheel rim and roughly the same as standard tyres with standard tyres.
What about the gas pedal cable? Fuel filter? Is the air intake system in good condition? I.e. no tears or holes? When was it last serviced?
Spray some wd40 on the hinge or the pedal. Mine was squeaky and now it's fine. Sorry could not be much help without information requested by Dez Derek above :thumbsup
I have a friend with an e36 316 coupe that had the same issue, we ran diagnostics on it and it revealed it was the no.2 knock sensor was fubar. Replacement from the Bay of E for the grand total of £48 and the problem was gone
