    Hi folks!

I'm a long term beamer lover but new to the forums, so please bear with me whilst i get used to how to communicate with everybody properly!

    Just bought a 3i6i compact 1997, 115k, silver.

Having a bit of entertainment with locking the little monkey! Can anybody help?

Using the remote central locking only the boot responds, not the driver's or passenger's doors.

Using the key in the driver's door lock there is control of driver's door, boot and petrol cap. The passenger's door only seems lockable independently ie from inside with the lock pin when closed, or from outside whilst lifting the outer door handle and inside lock pin.

    cheers to all and hi!

Sounds like the door lock solenoids (actuators) are the culprit. It is a common fault so there are a few guides on the web....

    Hi Billy!

Thanks for the quick reply. Think it's the passenger side only?

If you use the key in the passenger door and the drivers door doesn't lock then that needs replacing also

ok, actually, the passengers door doesn't have a keyhole - just the boot and the drivers door!

Hey BillyWhizz1984, You are truly a star!

Changed one of the actuators (driver's side) over the weekend and that now works a treat.

I'll do the passenger's side next week!

Thanks for the links, v helpful. I would add that if you don't want to take the lock mechanism out of the door, removing the window glass guide rail creates just enough room to snap the actuator in place.

This forum is great! Thanks to all contributors!!

I also have an E36 compact with a similar problem, was hoping for some advice!

There's no remote locking but the key in drivers side door unlocks the drivers door and boot.
Passenger side door can only be opened and locked from the inside.

Just to add to confusion the locks have been changed at some point in the past, so I have separate keys for doors and ignition, the passenger side door clearly wasn't changed, so takes the ignition key, however turning this doesn't unlock the door!

Any help on how to fix this much appreciated!
