Just bought another 323 coupe in black, nice to be back in an E36!
Only done 82K! First test drive and there's a fairly violent shudder coming through the trans in 2nd gear, you feel it all the way to the rear wheels.. but only when you floor it. Seems OK otherwise.. Any thoughts?
Cheers
Have attached a couple of pics, so you can see - a slight crack in the donut.. Its not totally disintegrated but has this failed enough to cause that much vibration? Also theres quite a lot of oily gunk on he bell housing/final drive area!
The centre bearing is behind the heat shielding. Try shaking the prop shaft by hand, close as possible to the centre bearing and see if there's any excess movement.
I'm actually doing this job right now! Bit of a pig on axle stands but so far so good, got the donut off and its clearly failed, will post some pics up after.. The center bearing appears to be fine. Looks like there has been an oil leak from the gear box at some point.. Possibly from what I think is the reverse light switch... Do these manual boxes use red ATF?
The side you can get a visual on while attached to the prop shaft looked OK bar a couple of hair line cracks it's only once I took the thing off the extent of the damage was clear. Needless to say, it has cured the nasty knocking when the fun pedal goes down :thumbsup .. Straight forward job, just a bit messy if you dont have the luxury of ramps!
Cheeers budy, I did check and it was good for level. TBH there was no fresh oil down there so I wasnt too worried. But yep it was the yellow sticker with mtf lt1 :thumbsup
