Hi All,
I know theres many posts on what im going to talk about in these forums but there are some variations with other post therefore I would like some help please, I will give as much detail as I can, thanks...
My car has been running rough and rich since iv had it for about 9 months now and also when we had the winter spell the car temperature would only heat up to just past the blue on the gauge. and also had a new cat fitted due some ratling noises which are still kinda there when car is cold.
Soo, The first thing i thought would help was to have a full service done, whilst being serviced my mechanice noticed that the O2 sensor was dodgyley wired up and was universal so he recommended I have a new one fitted which I did(Bosch).
After the service and O2 sensor was done it wasnt running as rich apart from whenever I floored it Id get a cloud of soot or burnt fuel coming out the back of the exhaust.
Coming to the warming up problem after loads of research on here I worked out that my Themostat faulty hence why the car would not reach normal 12o clock temperature. so I changed it my self and was very sucessful now the car heats up to normal temp and the runining rich on Idle seemed to disapear however would still occasionally get the black soot coming out the back on hard throttle.
also with hard throttle i gt a hesitation and the car starts really rough and low idle even sometimes cuts out on cold start like theres no choke working etc.
So to try and eliminate this problem I changed my boot hose as this was cracked in places.
cleaned the ICV
Cleaned my MAF that seemed to be quite clean inside
My coolant temp sensor seems to be ok as i think its the 2 in 1 type which is for the engine and the gauge and it seems to be operating normal on the gauge altho when i start the car from cold the gauge already moves into the blue part on the gauge but I guess that due to the warm morning weve been having.
I have noticed tho the longer I drive the car I.E the hotter the engine gets the better the performance.
I am on the verge of replacing my..
Air intake temp sensor
crankshaft sensor
and see what happens from then onwards also would i be best to use original
bmw parts for these kind of sensors as iv read the OE ones sometimes have different performances. If anybody can help Id be soo grateful as I love the car its in good condition for its age and the problem just seems like jus one part as everything else is fine.
Oh and before anyone asks I have thought about taking it to BMW for a fault code check but they want between £90-170 and they said its not guarantied they will find a fault.. also I have not warning lights come on either.
so any advice would be appreciated and has/does anyone else experience this problem?
Thanks all, look forwrd to hearing from anyone soon...:thumbsup
