hi all

recently the rear brakes on my car have started to make a grinding noise when the brakes are applied. its definately coming from the rear drums as i tested just using the handbrake from low speeds, it still made the grinding noise.

i assumed my brake shoes were low, so i bought some new ones and took my drums off, only to find that the shoes still have two thirds of the friction material left, and the drums themselves still seem to be fine, there is no serious scoring on the inside of the drum, and it still feels smooth to the touch, with no lip forming on either the drums or the shoes. after reassembling the drums, the noise disappeared for around 10 miles, before coming back exactly the same.

any idea what this could be? im thinking of just whacking the new shoes in anyway just to see if it makes a difference.
