Hi, At about 3000rpm's the power just flatlines and the psi guage just drops to zero, in every gear its the same but i do sometimes hear a hissing sound coming from the footwell area of the engine compartment? I've had a look at the pipes coming from the turbo but cant see anything out of place??
Can anyone help Jim
yeh seems to boost fine but hit 3000rpm's in any gear and it drops to zero and acceleration is very slow then until you slow down and drop gear at witch point boost is back until you hit around 3000 again
To start, check for any splits and tears in all vacuum piping and boost piping, and also check the actuator on the turbo, making sure it moves properly.
Check the short pipe on diagphram on turbo, its roughly just over an inch long.
Pipe from under inlet manifold (push fit and possible jubilee type clamp) located above inj pump,,this pipe goes to the boost pressure sensor on inner wing and this sensor is held by one screw and seperate from others that work egr and rad blind if fitted.
To test intercooler for leaks a bicycle inner tube cut open and fitted on pipes and then air pumped in,you will never hear a leak with engine running so this dodge helps.
Turbo waste gate rod has half a mill slack on it with engine off, just enough to let it wiggle a bit.
Ive had a look at the pipes but nothing obvious is flagging, even looked with the engin running but did notice a whining sound when you press the accelorator down, it starts at about 1500 rpm and up but goes away on tickover- sound like its coming from the turbo area but hard to tell with the engin running
OH! is the waste gate rod on the inside of the turbo between the turbo and engine and is hard to get to? if so there is pitty much no movement in it from what fingers i can get to it =)
Just noticed as well when you puch the accelerator the air intake hose moves up as like a hover hose when blocked? but i cant see how a 3" hose could get blocked like that?? any ideas??? is the turbo knackered =(
