1993 E36 320i Emissions Fail

Hi, Took her for an MOT today and failed on emissions :(
Been told its either a leaky exhaust or Lambda Sensor. Im not convinced there are any exhaust leaks, well nothing by ear anyway. Would this cause an emissions fail ? I have added a picture of the results which mean nothing to me but may be help in advising me. Thanks in advance.

Seems like its burning oil too. Definitely some sensor is playing up, get the codes read.

Deffo not burning any oil whatsoever, Never smokes and oil level is perfect all the time. Plugs are a perfect biscuit brown. Codes read ???

From the first figures I would say it looks like the Cat but the HC reading's high as well. From the second set looks like you're running a bit rich. This could be caused by various things - Lambda sensors, MAF sensor, Air temp sensor etc. Best thing to do would probably be to get the fault codes read as Benjamin said above.

i dont realy understand the printout but when my e36 325i on an l reg failed its emissions my mot man told me to give it a hiding up the bypass,i did then it passed.

When you say read fault codes im not fully understanding, Its never showed any fault lights etc on the dash and still pulls like a train. Thanks for your patience guys on this one.

U need to take the car for a gd blast and get the cat nice and red hot.Thats what i always do and it passes everytime

+1 for giving the old girl a hiding up the mway before the test and time it so you get to the test center 30 seconds before your test slot and then get them to do the emissions first

Thanks guys but id rather find the problem as it will only get worse and i plan on keeping her

also nice clean engine oil will help.Also look for any leaks on the exhaust only because you cant here it blowing it doesnt mean it isnt leaking.Check all the joints etc and if so put some exhaust putty on
