Hi just bought myself a very tidy e30 tourer 1.8i, love the car but had a few, shall we say niggles and was wondering if anyone on here could help??
OK so the main problem is the performance at the moment. When you floor it there is just no power and the idling seems quirte rough as if the engine is 'hunting' for a stable idle point. Not being shy at getting me hands dirty I've checked the following:
AFM/MAF is ok checked resistance through the range.
Idle control valve.
Temp sensor.
Fitted new air filter.
Whilst I was fiddling around in the engine bay I found some thing quite worrying. On the bottom of the throttle body there is a pipe which connects on (about 8mm in dia) which goes into a larger pipe (about 1/2 inch) approx 500mm in length. This has been disconnected from somewhere and a bolt has been inserted in the larger end to blank it off. Upon removal of this bolt the engine runs better, not perfect, but better. Is this a vacuum pipe, and if so where does it go? Hope you can help!
