2006 E60 530d What type of oil should I use?

Hi All,

Merry Christmas and all that stuff

600 miles to go before an oil change. Have read loads of stuff about resetting the iDrive, so I may get my local indy to do the oil change for me. Thing is I want to make sure the right oil is used.

What do I need to get? What do BMW use?

I get it, he changes it, I reset the iDrive, jobs a gooden....................yes?

BTW: The iDrive reset posts always talk about "key in ignition". I've got a 'START BUTTON' so can I assume that "key fob thingy in ignition" is just as good. Want to be sure before I try and the car evapourates into a pile of sauerkraut

ive got the same car be it a bit younger i personally wouldnt (an i didnt) get the oil from the stealers unless ure happy to pay over 100 quid for it i went to my m8 at bullseye an bought my oil from there they have the proper book to identify the correct type it did cost me near on 80 quid but its as good as stealers long life synthetic etc i found that my car drank nearly 8 litres just like its owner on a good night out

Try www.opieoils.co.uk ,they are forum vendors on here and offer a discount to members too.. (They can supply a service kit which inlcudes the oil and filter that you require)

If you enter your registration number into www.castrol.co.uk it will recommend a Castrol grade of oil to use...

Or if you don't fancy getting your hands dirty, you could try http://www.national.co.uk/order_oil.asp, who seem to be offering lubrication services at very reasonable prices ATM

You need an oil that meets the BMW LL04 spec, as long as it meets this brand is largely unimportant.

Exactly what oilmansi said, my previous stealer service used Castrol Edge LL04 one, sorry can;t remember the w numbers...

Technically, the grade shouldn't matter a lot, there's not a lot of difference between all of the LL04 oils anyway
