    Hi Chaps,

I am new to having my e61 and seem to be having a bit of a nightmare so far!

One thing though... how on earth do I check my oil level? Now, I know there is no dipstick, but there is also no function within idrive either! I have checked... I get to the service menu, then checked the status where it tells me everything is ok (oil, brake pads, next service etc) but there is no way to check the actual oil level. I have also tried to use the stalk on the left, but there is no menu either!

I have checked other threads, but it seems everyone has a menu that I don't! Does my idrive need updating or something? It is a 2005 55 plate 530i touring.

    Please please help me out!

    Regards

You need to up a level in service menu to highlight "status" on iDrive then roll across to the other service options

Thank god I have an actual dip-stick. Never thought I'd consider that a luxury!

Diesels have a dip stick and so no oil level option is availble in iDrive, the new fangled N petrol engines don't and so the iDrive has to tell you the oil level

Exactly!! I only have status to select, nothing to scroll to! The oil check does say 'ok' but it doesn't fill me with much confidence that it is ok without being able to see the actual level. Is there no way of checking for me? Ever??? Not comfortable with this!!

One presumes that it will say OK till a certain point then tell you to add oil. As long as it says OK can't see a problem, how a little graphic showing a bar makes it any safer can't quite see.

It does say 'ok', just don't like the fact of not knowing what is in! It's just so fundamental a thing and leaving it to an 'ok' message is just a little concerning! What I would like to know is... Why don't I have a readout? If everyone else does, where is mine one the Idrive??
