2004 e60 525d no service screen

A FEW WEEKS AGO, HAVING JUST DONE AN OIL CHANGE, I TRIED TO RESET THE OIL SERVICE LIGHT USING THE HIDDEN MENU / TRIP MILEAGE SWITCH ETC., WHICH I HAVE DONE PLENTY OF TIMES BEFORE.
I WAS UNABLE TO PULL UP THE VARIOUS SERVICE ITEMS, HOLDING THE TRIP SWITCH IN JUST TOOK ME TO THE '01._FGSTNR' MENU, WHICH WAS VERY STRANGE AS THIS NORMALLY ONLY HAPPENS IF YOU GO PAST THE SERVICE ITEMS.

THIS WAS A FEW WEEKS AGO AND THERE WERE 400 MILES REMAINING BEFORE AN OIL CHANGE DUE AT THAT TIME, AS I AM AWARE IF YOU LEAVE OIL SERVICE TILL ITS OVER 1,000 MILES EXCEEDED YOU CAN'T RESET IT THIS WAY.

I THOUGHT I'D JUST CHECK WITH THE iDRIVE SERVICE SCREEN AND THIS CAME UP ON SCREEN OK. THE PROBLEM SOON BECAME APPARENT. Text Electronics Technology Electronic device

AFTER JUST A MINUTE THE SERVICE SCREEN THEN WENT BLANK AND REMAINED SO FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES THEN CAME BACK ON FOR A FEW MINUTES.
THERE ARE NO LOOSE CONNECTIONS.
HAVING MONITORED THE PROBLEM OVER LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS THE SCREEN CONTINUALLY 'COMES AND GOES'.
CAN ANYONE POINT ME IN RIGHT DIRECTION AS TO WHAT THE FAULT IS. IF ITS ECU RELATED THEN I'M KNACKERED AS CAR ISN'T WORTH REPLACING THESE ITEMS.
EVERYTHING WORKS FINE OTHERWISE.

Thanks for your comments ... but you misunderstood.
I just let oil service count down to near zero before I re-set it ... but ignore it otherwise as I change my oil every 10,000 miles or slightly less in winter.
Can't be doing too bad ... car has done 230,000 miles, still on original turbo and still going strong and DPF never been a problem.
Only niggle it has is a regular 'hesitancy' as if an injector missing a squirt every now and then ... very annoying.
