Hi All,
I bought this car about a month ago and it's been a bit of a nightmare...
I was getting fumes in the cabin so had the exhaust manifold replaced to a cast iron one. The old manifold, as expected, had cracks - 6 cracks actually. Since the part was replaced, the car now has no boost. Revving the engine when parked you can hear the turbo spool up, but the revs rise pretty slowly, and the car has no boost when driving. There've been no warning lights come up.
I'm thinking a blocked DPF, but I don't know why there'd be no warning light/message, and I'm surprised at how well the car was running before the manifold change if it was blocked... Any ideas at all??? Thanks!!
if this helps mine is a Sept 05 car with a CAT on the downpipe after the turbo and the DPF box positioned as in the pictures above - both totally separate.
Agree with Davie and everyone else, sorry Matt - the middle box is the DPF on the vast majority of pre LCI's, the CAT is located at the front as in the linked diagrams. Post LCI was a single dpf/cat unit just under the turbo, there were no other variants on this engine
Well it sounded ok before I removed the DPF. With the dpf off you can hear a fair bit more turbo spooling. Other than that there has been an occasional unexplained rattle since he did the manifold...
So in the end I took the car into Barkers in haslemere to get sorted. It needed a new f'ing turbo!! I didn't get all the details as my wife went into labour so I left it for my dad to sort out for me, but apparently there is an electrical component that gets moved during the manifold change, and when unsettled sometimes they just fail. The upshot was that although the turbo had not blown, it needed replacing. Just bad luck apparently! Oh well, the car is up and running well again - as you'd hope........ Thanks for everyone's help and input. Charlie
Hahaha, I can see him agreeing to that! A very short conversation I think... Just a lesson to be more careful with who works on my car in the future...
I wish I had time to do it! I can do some stuff, but I'd need a lot of time to follow instruction etc, and I just don't have it. Shame, I enjoy getting my hands dirty!! (and saving a few quid...)
If the only problem was the electric actuator why did they renew the whole turbo? These actuators can be repaired and are available separately, though not from the dealer.
Don't know - like I said I just left it up to Dad to sort. I'm not going to depress myself by looking into that. The car work now, that's the main thing~!!
