    Since I bought the car 12 months ago my "change brake fluid" symbol next to the service interval indicator has been illuminated. I dont know when or if the fluid has ever been changed as there is nothing in the service book to indicate it has.
    I have put the car in this morning for a brake fluid change (with a reputable BMW indy) and asked them to reset the light only to be told that they can only reset the brake fluid indicator by resetting all the service lights as well. I would have thought that the "brake fluid service" would be independant of the other service lights.

    I service my own 39 and bought a service light reset kit. I found that you could only reset everything even though the device had options for resetting only certain features, the info with the kit stated this could be the case on certain cars so your mechanic could well be correct.

    Complete cr*p. The brake renewal is time based and the light will illuminate every 2 yrs. This is a separate circuit from the service reset. Me thinks the indy hasn't got the correct reset tool, so he has to reset everything

    I was trying to be a little subtle when I suggested that some re-set devices are not capable of just resetting one part of maintenance system, as I found out. If your man has this type of device he won’t be able to just reset the time warning, which maybe something to consider when selecting who works on your motor.

    Apologies mate if I did sound blunt, but I hate it when you get played by a garage

    Just picked up the car and all is well. Brake fluid changed and light reset no problems. Also had the rear diff oil changed as well all for £55.
    Can recommend them http://www.fieldlanegarage.co.uk/index.htm

    Found this while doing a bit of research, it may come in handy if you need to reset the "brake fluid change" symbol.(The clock symbol next to the service indicator lights) I went through the procedure on my car to check it out and although mine had already been reset by the garage as previously mentioned the sequence displayed as suggested.

    Time-based inspection/brake fluid renewal - independent of a distance-based service

    * Switch ignition OFF.
    * Press and hold odometer reset button
    * Turn ignition key to position I.
    * After 5 seconds the words "OIL SERVICE" or "INSPECTION" are shown together with the message "reset" or "re".
    * Release button. Press and hold button. After a further 5 seconds the message "reset" starts to flash.
    * Release button and wait for flashing sequence to stop.
    * Press and hold button for 5 seconds. The time-based inspection is now displayed together with the message "reset" or "re".
    * Release button. Press and hold button. After a further 5 seconds the message "reset" starts to flash.
    * Release button. Press and release button again.
    * The new service interval is now displayed.
    * Press and release button. The message "END SIA" is now displayed.
    * Switch ignition OFF.

    * Switch ignition OFF should that be 'ON' on the first line?
